Ok so I need some advice comparing the FX 8120 vs the 2500k in terms of gaming. Not trying to make the next super computer, but I'm thinking the 8120 is enough for good gaming. Also, i figure the difference between the 8120 and the 2500k could be used for a decent heatsink to overclock the 8120 past 4ghz and get even better performance. This is the 8120 build so far and i think it could easily keep up with the 2500k

on a side note, can anyone guestimate how high the 8120 could go with the N520?

Thanks in advance

hmmmm are you even serius OP??? look at this benchmarks
Intel Pentium G850 vs AMD- FX 8150.... the 8150 beats the G850 in almost everything....ALMOST everything EXCEPT the most important part....yep! gaming, look:

now... the i5 2500k vs the FX 8150: http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/288?vs=434

BTW...make sure you get a i5 3570k and not the now outdated i5 2500k
Now outdated 2500K, lol... They have almost identical performance in games, 2500K needs more power but overclocks better.

As far as I know, even a dual core intel can beat a six core AMD, personally I'd never go with an AMD CPU unless it was a really crappy budget PC. If you're playing games that are mostly GPU intensive then I suppose it'll work, but you'll probably find downsides.

If you go with intel, get the i5 3570k

The FX 8100 will overclock, then it will give around the same results for the stock i5. You will only be using more power and your PC won't last as long. The i5 overclocked though will be a beast of a machine and will come up against the i7's. In applications too the i5 will beat the FX. Unless you are getting water-cooling and having a super high OC there is just no reason for it.

oh?
how many benchmarks would you like showing the 2570K is 15% better in gaming?
It's still stupid to call it outdated. It's like saying GTX 580 is outdated just because GTX 680 is out.

i'll agree though i didn't know if it was exactly necessary to get bent out of shape over it.

no, there is a reason why amd "bulldozer" architecture is considered one of the biggest FAILS in computer hardware develpment, AMD SUCKS at making good cpus

The 1090T/1100T wasn't too bad, but FX is a mediocre excuse for a new product line, and definitely not the 'I7 KILLER', as it was labelled by AMD
