Yep, but only because nvidia stopped producing the 256bit gtx 460. And for FPS, it depends on the game and also your CPU (some games rely much more on CPU). But generally, you should be getting 40-50 fps in any game at max settings.

Hello, I have just upgraded my old Radeon x1950pro (great card by the way) to a new Sapphire hd 6850 for 99 euros (with Dirt 3 and Deus Ex human revolution included!!). The card is just great. My monitor is 1680x1050. You will be fine with most games, but remember that, for games, the faster the better. If I have had a more powerful PSU, I would definitely have go for a Radeon HD 6870 (which was 30 euros more) that is in my opinion the best bang for the buck you can get these days.
Which is your CPU?

Well, your core 2 quad q6600 is pretty similar to my athlon II x4 635 maybe a bit slower. You won't get much more fps with a more powerful card than the radeon HD 6850 or 6870. Both cards are awesome for its current price.

Remember that the HD 6870 needs two 6 pin connectors from your psu (6850 only needs one).

Good luck!

Well, it will depend on the game. You'll have a bit of bottleneck with your CPU. The difference between the 2 cards is about 20% look this link: http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/ASUS/Radeon_HD_6850_Direct_Cu/7.html
Your resolution is similar to 1680x1050. Take into consideration that the fps you'd get would be lower than those due to your weaker CPU (the CPU used in those benchmarks is a i7 920 @ 3,8 Ghz).

Another important thing to consider is your PSU. I know it has already been asked here before. Are you sure your PSU can handle a HD 6870?

no no no you got it all wrong. for BF3 to Max it out Ultra your gonna need VRAM. idk if you plan to get a 1080p monitor one day but my suggestion would be to grad a GTX 560 ti or a 448 core. a 560 would be fine for the job and you can get one easy. but You can't skimp out of the lowest you can get just to Barely run it on the settings you desire. If you want that smooth true visual gameplay.....

I also have a card to recommend that just hit the market. Its a Card thats kinda below the 560 but still at your resolution it will do fine:

if you want to go AMD Radeon:

The reason i choose XFX is that their warranty and brand it self its equal to EVGA's standards for their products
