I need a router with the capacity of regulate the internet connections. I will connect two pcs via ethernet cable and one notebook via wi fi. All three machines will download alot of information. A friend said me that with the QoS option the router automatically will give priority to surf the web over the downloads. I need something like that because is important that the downloads of one pc will not interfere with the possibility of surf the web in the others pcs. He recommended me the WRT54GL with DD-WRT firmware to achieve that. Do you think is a good router? I know is old but is the router with the best reviews apparently.
Other thing: I have read that some routers have Gigabite Ethernet ports. My motherboard has 10/100/1000 lan port: can I get benefits from the Gigabite ports? I will share files with the other pc of the home but the other pc only have 10/100 lan port. Plus: in windows I can get max 100 mbs of transfer rate between hard drives.. so when the Gigabite option will help?
the giga port will not help you since none of the other device have one and it will not improve your internet connection either.
Thank you esmerald. Im very inclined for that router because the reviews. Do you know if effectively I will can configure QoS with that router? a friend said me that with dd-wrt you can put an automatic QoS that will give more priority to surf the web than the downloads of the moment.
One thing that make me doubt about is that the wrt54gl is an old router. Do you think is a wise decision in the present?
In a national forum other users recommended me TP-Link routers, like the Tp-link 1043ND. Is better the wrt54gl?
