I have an i5 2500k proccessro and I am getting a radeon 6870 graphics card. I have a 460 watt psu and it says it needs a 500 watt most people say I will be okay are they right??

This is the cheapest unit I've found which is trustworthy enough and has the necessary connectors for a system with a 6870:
Silverstone Strider Essential 500W SST-ST50F-ES $50 ($10 rebate)

You could also use this if you are willing to use 4pin peripheral (molex) to PCIe adapters to get the second 6pin PCIe connector that a 6870 needs.
Corsair CX430 V2 $45 ($2 shipping, $10 rebate)
