Hi guys after taking your advice i bought a sapphire 7870 and it came today ive installed what i THINK is the newest driver for it and then i have tried battlefield 3 campaign, to be honest the frames are insane compared to my last card but the game doesnt look asgood as it should and according to msi afterburner i have no shader clock do you think there is something wrong with it or can i install something to fix it? i should say when i play bf3 when i turn off 4xmsaa everything looks the same theres no quality change compared to 0 msaa but the frames do go up when i turn it off i dont understand it

i should mention that the game is randomly making things appear infront or around me aswell that didnt happen on my old card they were already there

You have given us no information to help you.

What driver are you using?

What cpu?

What power supply?

What resolution?

Did you clean out all your Nvidia drivers before installing AMD drivers?
April 12, 2012 2:04:06 PM

yea i took nvidia drivers off, 700watt psu, AMD 6100 X6 bulldozer CPU, the resolution i usualy use is 1920x1080 but it wont let me use it in games only 1360x768 or it screws up or gives me a black border around the screen, the drivers are 12.3
April 12, 2012 3:19:27 PM

this is my first ATI card and im starting to regret it

What 700w psu???

The card is capable of running much higher than 1920x1080, so if you can't run that, there's a problem. Set your desktop to 1920x1080, then set the resolution to 1920x1080 in the game.

I've been running ATI Cards for 6yrs straight, no issues whatsoever.
April 12, 2012 4:25:18 PM

my desktop is at 1920 thats why i dont get it, i cant remember exact name its a OCU GTI something like that im changing it soon becouse it neerly killed me...well this is my first ATI gpu and its not a good impression =( i keep getting something coming up when i restart my pc saying cannot find kdbsync.exe please reinstall to complete?
April 12, 2012 4:35:21 PM

Really check and make sure that you uninstalled your nvidia drivers correctly, you can google several guides on how to do this. I too have a sapphire 7870 and play at 1920x1080 with a overclocked i5 750 and the card has been running amazingly on every game i throw at it.
April 12, 2012 4:44:11 PM

well i had high hopes from the benchmarks and youtube video's ive seen of the card but when it did this i instantly regretted not buying a nvidia card =( ya ive uninstalled every nvidia driver and file i cant find any even on the search accept 2 empty folders for nvidia 3d. Btw mious what fps do you get on bf3 caspian border in ultra 4xmsaa?

It look looks a driver issue, Are you sure you installed the correct drivers?. http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Pages/rad...

You can try installing 12.1 and see if that resolves the issues. Maybe the drivers didn't install properly.

try disabling kdbsync.exe at the startup in msconfig.

Yeah try 12.2 to see if it resolves your issues.

Easiest way to get to msconfig is to type it in the search bar above the windows logo on the bottom left and select startup.

You instantly regretted not buying an nvidia card, because your not good with computers...........yeah, nvidia cards are more idiot proof. :sarcastic:

This is clearly a case of a defective user.

It just means you need to be more patient until you get everything working right.

Btw, what windows version do you have? If it's Windows 7, there shouldn't be an issue with your old Nvidia drivers being installed. Win 7 allows for multiple sets of drivers, but if you have Vista, that could very well be your issue.

You could download GPU-Z and post a screen shot. Sometimes people get really crazy up and down performance due to the bus interface not being correctly. It should read PCI-E 2.0 x16 @ x16 2.0, but you might have to push the ? mark next to it in order to get it to respond and show you the right bus.
April 12, 2012 6:51:38 PM

what the hell is going on i cant load up fraps or msi afterburner becouse i dont have dx9??? i was using it 2 hours ago ffs...ok thanks ill download GPU-Z

April 12, 2012 6:55:21 PM

Hmm...if you did some of those drive sweeps, you may need to reinstall the drivers. I think your inability to load MSI afterburner is telling of some install issues.
April 12, 2012 7:01:14 PM

Do you think it would be easier for me to start from scratch? ill get the computer formated and do it from there?

Does your motherboard have an IGP (integrated graphics processor)? Your 7870 might be turned off while the IGP is running things. That would explain that picture. It also might just be a problem with GPU-Z, because that's a new GPU.
April 12, 2012 7:13:13 PM

nope its a lone motherboard ive not used my pc for 3 days becouse no graphic card in it till today, ya but if it was becouse its a new GPU it would also do it to the people on youtube but asfar as i have seen it has only done it to me
April 12, 2012 7:13:59 PM

earlier today when i first installed the GPU i turned on MSI afterburner and it was not reading any shader clock
a c 216 U Graphics card
April 12, 2012 7:14:58 PM

Well, let's backup to the MSI AB error. You need to see what is causing you to not have DX9 support. Do some google searches on the exact error until you can track it down.
April 12, 2012 7:22:10 PM

well ive re-installed MSI afterburner and its working just like before so thats sorted =) problem is why doesnt it show my shader clock? btw i just installed the 12.3 update again and the GPU-Z is working by the look of it.

Picture of both

Hmmm yea i dont know why its doubled over its self it wasnt like that when i saved it

April 12, 2012 7:24:28 PM

The shader clock is not for AMD cards. In fact, the new Nvidia GTX 680 also does not get to adjust the shader clock either. That is for older Nvidia cards, you can ignore it.

All that looks good now.
April 12, 2012 7:26:22 PM

Ahhh ok thanks, my first ATI card i never knew that lol
April 12, 2012 7:29:20 PM

Hmm i assume this was a bad install by me, ive just tried WoW and its working perfectly no lagg but still not as high fps as i was expecting ill just try bf3 see if that has fixed
April 12, 2012 7:40:38 PM

Ok this is by far the strangest GPU ive ever had, i was playing battlefield 3 the part were you kill the sniper with rpg and the sniping part just after that and with x4msaa i was getting between 72 and 112 fps then i switched it off and i got between 55 and 72 fps...the higher the msaa the better? lol
a c 216 U Graphics card
April 12, 2012 7:42:01 PM

Well, don't get too greedy on the MSAA in BF3, I hear it doesn't perform well, but it's great to see what ever was giving you troubles earlier is not now.
April 12, 2012 7:43:09 PM

To be honest i think the x2msaa looks better than the x4 but still it looks and performs great thanks for the help =)

April 12, 2012 7:47:45 PM

I just had a thought of what probably caused the problem, as I've had the same issue before. Did you not reinstall MSI Afterburner after you switched cards? From my experience that could definitely mess things up. It must install differently depending on the brand.
April 12, 2012 7:53:01 PM

Nope i assumed it would be fine

Your FX-4100 might be the bottleneck there, WoW is very cpu dependant. The 7870 is a solid upgrade to the 560 ti just don't expect too much of an improvment . I would have gone for a second 560 ti.

i have a AMD 6100 x6 core lol, i bought this for now and the future the GTX 560Ti was all over the place to be honest it was not even close to being asgood or as stable as this 7870 :D

FX4100 and 6100 are nearly identicle in gaming. Very poor.

funny how a 6 core processor that works perfectly and very quickly can be crap to a internet troll
