Static charge during build

Hello everyone!
i am going to build my first gaming rig and have got all the components etc. I read about the static charge thing which can destroy components by touch.
My question is - will i need additional precautions if i sit on the floor without any mat/carpet on it during the whole build?

what you want to do is tuch the case first before you pick up parts to short yourself to ground. if there a local radio shack you can pick up a 6.00 one use esd strap. your better off using a large table as you can keep everything in there anti static bags on a large table.
