My 10x/40x DVD doesn't always read or detect CDs (always detects DVDs though). And installs kinda slow.

I had the same problem.....just got worse and worse, finally stopped reading data and audio CD's all together one day, always fired up DVD's first try though. The manufacturer advised there are two different lasers on DVD drives, one for DVD's and one for data and audio CD's, sounds as though yours might be going out or possibly it just has problems with certain disks which is not unheard of.

URG!I will use my Plextor as primary CD reader then, I still need my DVD to burn on my plextor burner! well Pioneer 16x is only $55 anyway
