Best gaming CPU for 200$ or under?

im building a Computer for my friend and he wants to mainly play arma 2 which is very CPU intense. so i want him to have the best PCU possible but for 200$ and under. the one i have picked out for now is this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116506

is that good? im not sure what makes a CPU good for gaming. he might be able to spend like 10-20 more dollars but not higher than that.He will also be using a 650W PSU. thanks in advance!

  1. No brainer, here: i5-2500, i5-3570 or i5-3540. All will perform about the same for games. Get the models that end in K if you want to overclock.

    Exactly.

    What is the PSU?

PSU: Power Supply Unit / SMPS

That's not what he meant... He meant which PSU, as in what model?

I may have said what is a PSU, not THE PSU.
  7. If you're sticking with an intel build go with the I5's mentioned. AMD build I'd go with the 965BE or 1090T BE. BE=Black edition= Easy Overclocking like the K's for intel. Obviously if you already have an intel MOBO get one of the previously mentioned I5 chips.
  8. Here's the PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817148041

It has good reviews, and it's a good price. if you guys think i could get a better brand for about the same price that'd be cool
  9. and it's an intel build
  10. Horrible power supply.

    This one is much better.
  11. what's so bad about the PSU?
  12. Well every AMD CPU is under $200 so your choice is vast, on the intel front, I heard that Microcenters have walk in rebates for K chips but other than that all Intel K chips are $200-1000 depending on the platform, if you want lower cost then perhaps a i5 3450, 2400 should be about right.

1090T/1100T are long gone. You'd only find one used. And the 965BE (or other AMD quads) is more on par (and price) with the Core i3 chips in terms of gaming performance down at the $100-125 end of the spectrum.
