I have a GA-990FXA-UD5 board with AMD Bulldozer FX-8 8150 8 Core 3.6Ghz Socket AM3+ 8MB L3 Cache 125W and 16 gig of ram when i go to base core in windows 7 it only shows 8 and other computer with same amd 8 core and it shows 8 getting worried that the cpu is damaged i have upgraded to the latest bios and no change in it. I also tryed reseting the bios still no change. Any ideas i need this computer for fast Remastering Audio Software.
Run msconfig in the run box in the start menu.
Go to the Boot tab
Click on Advanced options
Check and see the number of Processors listed there
If there is a tick in the Box remove it.
Now check the number of Core that show up.
My 6 core bulldozer shows up as 3 cores but 6 logical processors, maybe your 8 core is doing the same, before sp1 on win 7 it just showed six cores but after sp1 and win 8 has always said 3 core but 6 logical processors, it is what they realy are just amd won't admit it because it debunks all their advertising, if they admitted it they could possibly be sued for false advertisement
Do you have 8 threads in your task manager? If so than it's working fine.
As other have mentioned since the release of FX a number of programs that use to detect it as an 8 core processor now refer to it as a 4 core 8 thread because that is technically what it is despite how AMD chooses to market it.
So now what AMD technical engineers say is not the case because people on the internet decide it to be so.
4C/8T traditionally describes intel HT based processors, that can be correct because a Intel processor cannot opperate on HT virtualization alone, A AMD FX 8150 can operate on cores 1,3,5,7 or 2,4,6,8 or any combination thereof, so yes they are functional cores on there own.
