hello, im going to be upgrading to a i5 3570k and want to overclock. i hear plenty of people using the 212 cooler and it does good at 4.0ghz what about a coolermaster N520 in push/pull cause thats what im using on my phenom ii X4 965 @ 3.8ghz and at idle i get 20 degrees Celsius.

It would probably preform the same as the 212. Here is my guide little to cooling and overclocking:

3.0 - 4.0 ghz: Air cooling (212 or CM N520)
4.0 - 4.5 ghz: Closed loop water cooling (H100)
4.5 - 5.0 ghz: Open *custom* loop water cooling: Buying res, pump, coolant, tubes, fittings yourself.

Just my opinion though.

Right, water cooling isn't always necessary, but it does help if you have the extra mooney to spend. In push/pull no doubt it's possible to cool a processor effectively near 4 ghz. Most of the time it's just a personal preference.

If you overclock with the hyper evo 212 to 4.0-4.3 you will likely be in the mid 60s to 70's.

You won't be running the system at 100% load constantly, so temperatures for normal gaming machine at full load are not a serious issue.

I recently got the Ivy Bridge like yours, gotta tell you that it run crazy hot after 4.0GHz :pfff: though, Ivy Bridge is made to handle up to 105C, but most people preferred to stay under 70-80C. Keep in mind, ambient temperature added approx 5 degrees higher, so say you are at 50C, more accurately it's 55C. I am still new with the Intel. Coming from an AMD 965 BE.

I find these chips max out at around 4.5Ghz and take massive voltage increases to get beyond that. And sometimes, I can't find a way to be stable after 4.5Ghz. It is fairly easy to get to 4.5Ghz though, even with the Hyper212 Evo temps should stay in check.

I don't see why anyone would need an H100 just to get to 4.3Ghz. At least go up to 4.5Ghz and get your money's worth. From what I hear, as long as you stay around 1.385v, you should be ok. Although to hit 4.5Ghz, it normally takes about 1.300v.

I never see 50c @ 4.3 with my 3570k and Hyper 212. I have the earlier non evo.

That's not bad at all. What's your voltage setting?

I honestly am not sure. I was lazy and left everything on auto. I probably could go back and tweak the voltage a bit and lower it.
