Hi I currently have a Nvidia Geforce 8800 GTX (Dell) and it is Super Super Super! Loud anyways my Power Supply Is a Corsair CX430 (Great PSU) for the money. Anyways I'm looking at upgrading my Graphics Card. So I've done some research and I want to know of these 4 cards which I should get and is the best Bang for the Buck.

My Choices are:
Radeon HD 5770

Radeon HD 6770

Radeon HD 5850

Radeon HD 6850

All of those cards are basically the same just upgraded in the 6000 line. So which one should I get? I want to play STarcraft II, Diablo III, WOW, BattleField 3, League of Legends, and finally Skyrim :)

SO it has to play those games at mid-Ultra Settings. I'm gonna be shopping on Ebay for a used or new brand of each of those cards. And the power requirement of those 4 cards my Corsair CX430 can handle anything above that it can't handle.

So help me pick a good GPU :)

6850 is not the replacement for the 5850 the 6950 was the replacement for the 5850 so it goes faster to slower 5850, 6850, 6770/5770 are the same cards and the 6850 is by far the best vaule unless you can get the 5850 for around the same price. Also I would not spend any more than $160 on the 5850 otherwise it would be to close in price to a 6870 to justify a purchase.

What is your budget?

What are your full system specs?(CPU,RAM,etc.)

Well the 5850 is the fastest but not far behind is the 6850.The 5770 and the 6770 are basically the same performance wise. But none of those cards can play those games on Ultra.

I suggest going for the 6850.It has a low TDP,which will be better for your PSU,and 2 of them in crossfire is a really good combo which is something you should look forward.

I would get the HD 6850. The HD 5850 is actually faster than the 6850, but I would like to know the resolution at which you're playing at.

I have a fantastic CRT monitor capable of 2048x1536 but just gonna keep it at 1280x1024 (1080P)

Specs:
CPU: AMD Phenom II x4 965
RAM: 4gb of G-skill Rip-jaws X in dual channel at 1333mhz
PSU: Corsair Cx430 V2
Mobo: Asus M4A87TD Evo
HDD: 250gb SATA 7200.11 RPM 8mb Seagate barracuda
(Current GPU): Dell Nvidia Geforce 8800 GTX

So what would be the best card to upgrade with those specs. I could get more ram to make it sure it runs even faster.

I really like the 6850 and the 5850. the 6770 and 5770 are ok.

I appreciate the answers.
Is there a better card for me that my PSU can handle than what I listed?

budget is really low that's why I'm buying on ebay :)

I ahve like no money to spend so hopeing to get a good deal on Ebay.

Total budget is 70$

The native resolution is 1280X1024?
For that resolution, a HD 6850 isn't really needed. A HD 6770/5770 should suffice. But then again, going for a HD 6770 would only be a small upgrade from a 8800 GTX (with less power and DX11 support, of course), but it would be just a waste of money.
I still recommend you go for a HD 6850.

no the native resolution isn't 1280x1024 I think it's 1024x768 but the monitor can go up to 2048x1536!!!.

alright so definitely go for the Radeon HD 6850?

By the way... 1080p is 1920x1080, not 1280x1024.

I'd recommend the 6850 for 1280x1024... more than enough power to handle everything (though possibly not with AA cranked up).

Are you serious a 6850 would crush ANY game at 1280x1024.

There isn't native resolution for CRTs. What size is your CRT? 2048x1536 is not monitor limit, it's the VGA cable limit.

I kind of doubt that BF3 on ultra + maxed AA is going to get "crushed" by a 6850, even at that resolution.

Also, Witcher 2 with ubersampling will probably not be playable on a 6850...

My point is simply that there will be a few scenarios where AA options will have to be turned down. Doesn't mean that the 6850 can't handle the resolution well, it just means that you should have realistic expectations about what the card can do.

+1
I should have asked him the size in inches.

Witcher 2's Ubersampling kills frame rates for almost any single card out there, doesn't it?

Not even the top end cards can really handle those two games you mentioned plus I will add Metro 2033 and Crysis everyone knows that and it goes without saying so back to what I was saying a 6850 will pwn @ 1280x1024 in any game.

Ok thank you guys so I'm gonna get the Radeon HD 6850 Sapphire New in box for 70$ is that good deal?

And it will handle all my games at a medium resolution? The CRT monitor is 21 inches.

If i switched my 8800 GTX to a radeon hd 6770? would it eb a big performance increase?? And are all those fans quieter than my 8800 GTX I can't stand the darn thing!!!

6850 can handle most games even at 1080P no problem but $70 for a new 6850 is not true they go for around $140 brand new right now.

Both the 6770 and 6850 will be quiet, but the 6770 will not be a big performance increase over the 8800 GTX. The biggest graphics increase with that card will be that you can enable DX11 on the 6770. The 6850 will be a decent performance increase, though.

At 1280x1024, The 6850 will run pretty much everything at max settings minus AA in some cases, as I said above. The 6770 will not run the most demanding games maxed out, however.

At 1920x1080, the 6850 will run most games at max settings (demanding ones with no AA, maybe a setting or two turned down)

Considering the CRT is 21", you should run it at 1600x1200. It should look way better than 1280x1024 :) .

Also, if you can get HD6850 for $70, it's hell of a deal. Get it before it's sold out!

Save yourself some time and accumulate $30 more then wait 20 sec before an auction ends and nab a 6850 ASAP. They are definitely worth the money, will smash many games at your resolution, and my Sapphire in particular was very quiet and overclocked very well.

Could my corsair cx430 V2 handle a HD 6870?????? I hope it can :)

You should be alright with the 6870 on your PSU I have a GTX 275 running fine on a similar PSU.

No, I don't think it can handle a 6870, :)  but if your interested I have one available for $130 soon. I just sold my Sapphire 6850 for $120 shipped because I was able to ensure reliability (something that is fairly questioned when buying GPUs) so be careful about those cheap prices (of course you know that already).

6870 draws 151watts or 28 amps the Corsair CX 430 will power it no worries it is Johnny Guru recommended.

Correct :bounce:

A 6850 is a good deal anywhere below $120 I believe, though it has been a few weeks since I checked around on the low end GPU segment.

I don't think it can handle it, sure on paper it says so but I'd say 500+ would do it. Can anyone clarify that they have had a 430w work for a 6870 or something similar? What's the recommended PSU for a 6870?

Technically from what I read he only has the one cable, so at the moment it can't handle it lol.

Sorry OP, last post from me because this is becoming irrelevant and you already have your answer.

I already stated that I am running a GTX 275 on a similar PSU cool master RX 420watt the Corsair is a better PSU. In the past I have run Crossfired Radeon HD 4890s on a TH certified 550watt Enermax PSU without problems.

$130 GPUs are not midrange, by definition... I don't know why you insist on arguing with me for no reason, especially when earlier you started arguing with me only to then later say the exact same thing that I said and which you first argued against... Do you own a 6850 and feel slighted by my comments or something? :heink:

Roughly speaking:
sub-$200 GPUs are low end
$200-350 GPUs are midrange
$350+ GPUs are high end

When you have a pricing structure that spans roughly $70-$500, that's how it works. You could break it into entry/low/mid/high/enthusiast if you want, but you get the idea. If you say that a $130 GPU is midrange, you then either have 90% of GPUs out there being "midrange" or you need to come up with about 5 categories of "high end".

@OP... I've had bad experiences in the past cheaping out on PSUs, so I'd recommend getting a nice 500-550W power supply, even if your current one may technically be capable. I have more experience with 650W+ models (which you don't need), but you could consult the list here:
http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/322966-28-list-recomm...

I glanced through that, and this looks good to me if you're interested in upgrading your PSU just to be on the safe side:

But... 6xxx series are now old. You are using year old standards, which makes no sense. Talk about misinformation...

As of 4/14/2012:
68xx and under are low end
6950/70 are midrange
6990 is high end

(I realize that the 6870 is arguably midrange and 6970 is arguably high end... I'm not arguing a precise breakdown, just trying to make a general point)

By your logic, an 8800GTX is a high end GPU.

oh wait I remember my sister took my camera to New jersey.... :(  soon as I get it back I will post pics. Is 110$ for a new-other Radeon hd 6850 a good price?

ROFL I totally Agree :)  a gift from god. God Rains down Radeon HD 6850 GPUS??? SWEET!!!!!. lol Modern Warfare 2 is a high end game my 8800 GTX probably couldn't handle it :p

No man MW2 is LOW LOW end requirements it is based off a very old PS2 COD engine that they just keep on reinventing. even a Radeon HD 5750 pretty much stays above 60fps when it is maxed out and my GTX 275 very rarely has a dip below 60fps but mostly in the 65 to 90fps range and that 6850 should be in the 100fps+ range.
