I'm planing on getting this heatsink (coolermaster hyper evo 212)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

Now this says it is compatible with lga2011 and there is a video of a guy installing it here onto 2011:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H_QVWBm4CI4

But on newegg they have the option to buy this: (a 2011 specific bracket)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

It looks like the bracket that comes with the heatsink, do I need the bracket to install it on a lga2011 board (sabertoothx79 to be specific)

yes you need it, the bracket that states LGA 2011.
there is a difference in the measurements (CPU cooler and push/pins) of the LGA 1155/1156 will not fit.

edit:
now if the box says LGA 2011 then you have the latest revision and as stated below 'djdecibel'
then your set with just the retail package.
I just checked link and it says on the box and listing LGA 2011, so by that right there, it comes with..

go for it.

You don't need that bracket. Trust me.

The bracket that comes with the 212 Evo is adjustable and you just set it to the LGA 2011 position. It also comes with the correct standoffs.

Again, no need to buy the extra bracket (unless you just really want to, for some strange reason).
