This isn't about AMD vs Nvidia in general use. But for the use of 3D editing, CAD, video editing, photoshop etc. I am wondering if I will see a gain in either. As an example, lets compare the 7850 to the 560 Ti. I know the 560 has CUDA and some other stuff that will be helpful for my uses, but will AMD cards work just as nice?

I plan to game too, so the quadro's or fire pros won't suffice.

Solution
nVidia 5xx series are great CUDA cards......some are officially supported, some ya need to "unlock"

The GTX 6xx series, at least what we have seen so far w/ the GK104 is not designed for GPGPU computing, nVidia has saved that for the GK110 series aka "big kepler" which we haven't seen yet.

And BTW, here's a comparison (Guru3D)of the 7850 and 560 Ti

Game - 7850 - 560 Ti - 560 Ti (900Mhz)
COD-MW - 127 - 123 - 134
Bad Company - 2 - 50 - 47 - 51
Far Cry 2 - 78 - 81 - 88
Metro 2033 - 27 - 23 - 26
Dawn of Discovery - 78 - 68 - 73
Total - 360 - 342 - 372
Cost - $260 - $200 - $210

Costs (US) per frame:

7850 = $0.72
560 Ti = $0.58
560 Ti Cu = $0.56

@Sunius, yeah the cards are better. But I prefer AMD and thought I could get similar performance with the AMD card.

@YoYoman2000- Won't game as good as I would like, and they $ too much.

@JackNaylorPE- Thanks man, great info.

I think I will wait for the medien 6xx series anyways. Just to see what their like.
