Problem with my new Edimax BR-6524n

Hello,

I bought a new Edimax BR-6524n router today, and hooked it up.

I have a 12mbit cable connection to my ISP, but when i connected to the internet using the router and tried to download something i got 15kb/s instead of 1.5mb/s.

Spoke to my ISP and it's the router without a doubt.

My question is, are there any specific configurations that need to be done for it to work properly or might it just be a faulty router.

I connect using L2TP if it matters.

make sure reboot the modem before you attach the router (turned off) to it.

Once the modem has synced turn on the router

then connect a computer to the router via network cable and test the speed
