CPU Cooling

I'm just about to build my new PC (this weekend) but I am a little confused about Thermal Paste. I have bought a tube of it as everywhere seems to suggest I need it but since watching a few videos online I have noticed that the intel heatsink (I have bought Intel 3rd Generation Core i5-3570K) has thermal compound already on it....should I use my paste in conjunction with this or do I not need it.

More about cooling
  1. If you are using the Intel fan then, no, you do not need to aply thermal paste as the Intel fan has a thermal pad on it that functions as the thermal paste. But I would recommend that you look for an aftermarket CPU cooler, as they are much better at cooling.
  2. BTW one of the best air coolers is the Noctua, while I prefer Antec closed loop coolers. But there are a lot of good coolers out there.
