I called Asus and they said my psu doesn't have enough power for the system. They recommend one with 700 plus wats. Thank you!

Bad ram is a possibility, try the system with one stick at a time
You don't need anywhere near 700 or 1000 watts, the specs you gave us would run just fine on a 350 watt psu, and still have plenty of overhead.

I agree with Brett . Asus was just running down a list of possibilities. Your 500W OCZ should be enough unless your running multiple video cards.

That said, my 700W PC Power & Cooling (OCZ) has been going strong for years under heavy power draw.

Using this here http://www.extreme.outervision.com/PSUEngine

With your video card, CPU overclocked to 4 gig, 4 HD's, 6 fans, SSD, DVD burner, etc, you're only at ~375w of usage.

Doesn't calculate usage, gives a reccomendation based on TDP of components input and some overhead, OP's specs won't come anywhere near 375w

I checked the ram through Windows Mem test, all 4 sticks though and they checked out fine. I forgot to mention I have Windows 7 and Windows ofiice xp. The system was running fine until maybe a month ago. I tend to fully power off the computer, when I'm away for more than 3 days. I noticed the rebooting specially after powering the system back on. This week, it's constantly doing it. I just updated the bios and updated a bunch of drivers.

A bad PSU is a possibility, but not enough wattage definitely isn't. 500W is more than enough for that system, as has already been stated.

It could be a host of things, honestly. Bad PSU, bad RAM, mobo failing, and even a failing GPU.

Thanks for all your help. I really appreciate it! I'm going to swap out the psu and restest each stick of ram (as those are the least expensive options right now). Then if the issue persists, then step 2. I'll keep you posted!

Keep your expenses down and don't buy a 1kw psu that you have no need for

For sure not! I'm going with another ocz 700w, on Amazon for $81- a $30 rebate. I'll sell my current one on Ebay. I'm just hoping that in the end it's not the Mobo or the CPU.

Hi :)

If it IS your PSU (which I doubt) , please drop the faulty one in the bin...don't sell it on Ebay :(

All the best Brett :)

FYI OCZ have a shaky track record.OCZ is not my favorite company, not by a long shot, however they do make some quite good power supplies to my surprise. Avoid Epsilon platform models as they are an old design which is questionable. The Impervio and Sirtec models are highly rated. The FSP PSU's for OCZ are average. But my main point is OCZ is iffy at best.

No more rebooting issues! Apparently when I added the 2 add ram cards, I hadn't reset the DRAM button and CLRT on my mobo. Guess I didn't need that new psu afterall. Thanks for your input guys!

Peace,
Claudia
