I have an old HP Compaq d220 MT laying around that I want to upgrade into maybe a home theater pc. Just something that can play movies at 1080p without lag and stuttering. Current specs are:

2.4GHz intel celeron
1GB ram
40GB IDE hard drive
integrated graphics
Windows XP 32bit

How would I go about upgrading this? By the way, this motherboard only has PCI slots, no PCI express. Also, it currently doesn't have a system fan, only a processor fan.

the short answer is no, it has just about reached an age where it is no longer practical that RAM will most likely be DDR and it is hard to find that stuff now, the best you could do is as 2fast4thetown_down suggested get new everything you don't need a power house probably something with an i3 would do.

Thank you

here is a 800 dollar build

a $1000 build ( I recommend this one)

$2000 builds ( I recommend the first one but the second is cooler look at both and then make your decision, I did put a radeon 7970 in the first one so if you want a htpc you will need a nice graphics card)

No budget build

any of these will fit your needs the best are towards the bottom but cost more so choose accordingly to your budget.

Hi, thanks for all the replies. I would prefer not getting a new PC, as my budget is probably $100 or less. I just want a way so that I can squeeze out a little more performance from this old, slow computer.
