Mix of IDE devices

I'm pondering buying the Abit KT7A mobo and an IBM 60GXP 40 GB HD to go with my Philips 32X CD, HP 8100+ CD-burner + my 6 and 3 GB ATA66 (possibly 33 even) disks. Is it a bad idea to try and run all those together, disks on one IDE and cd-drives on the other? I've ran the cd's on one before, so that's not a problem, but I'm not sure about the discs, I don't wanna miss out on the ATA100 performace.

Thanks in advance,
Daniel

First off, you can only put two devices on one IDE port, not three.
Secondly, yes, you'll miss out on the performance of ATA100 by chaining it together with ATA33 drives (yes, they're ATA33, I guarantee it).
The solution? Buy an ATA66 controller card and put the two smaller hard drives on that. You could use an ATA33 card, but they're harder to find.

<font color=blue>Burger is right on except the purchase. Get the KT7A-RAID board. So what if you don't want raid. It still allows up to 8 ide's without taking up a pci, or costing you much more dinero than a KT7A.
C'mon burger - you missed that one.

Oohh...you're right. I didn't realize he was buying a motherboard, I thought he was just asking about possible problems.

Yeah, buy the KT7a-RAID. It's what I have, works well.
