CPU upgrade question

I have a AMD Phenom 1 9850 2.5ghz cpu in a Asus M3A78 mobo with 8g of ddr2 and a HD 6870 vid card with 1gig on it.

Im playing Guildwars2 now and when I get in a larger battle my frame rate goes to a screeching halt! Would upgrading to the Phenom IIX6 1090T,3.2GHz,125W be a noticeable performance boost and solve this issue? Asus support page says my board can run this CPU.

I don't want to upgrade and still have the frame rate issues like I am having.

Would this be an option over building a whole new rig?

I'm not sure where you would be able to find a 1090T that wasn't used at a reasonable price at this point. Would it give a huge performance bump? Probably. The problem is, you're using an older motherboard with DDR2 RAM. I just wouldn't do it without a newer motherboard, and at that point, you might consider looking at Intel i5s.

Was thinking about looking at the i5 idea.... I would really like to get the game playable on this machine to save the money- if its possible.
