Can i plug a pcie 2.1 video card into a 2.0 slot?

hey there everyone just curious there. my local micro center has a hd 6850 for 119.99 this month would like to purchase but my board only has a 2.0 slot. is the 2.1 cards backward compatible or does a 2.1 card require a 2.1 slot for power purpose's? or is it just a marketing plot?

Physical Memory : 8192MB DDR3-SDRAM 1333

Video Card : NVIDIA GeForce GT 520

Yes it will work fine. You will not have any issues.

Yes you can, I had my GPU (HIS HD6790 1GB), a 2.1 card into a 1.1 slot and then into a 2.0 slot. Theres not bandwidth penalty *in most cases* it wasnt for me.

Yep. Especially since there is no such thing as a PCI-e 2.1 slot.

PCI-e 2.0 slots are compatible with all PCI-e cards from PCI-e 1.0 to PCI-e 3.0. That just about covers all the types of PCI-e cards ever made.
