Hello,

I used to play Pokemon quite a lot (irrelevant-ish) and I came across a Pokemon website called Pokebay and basically they had a trading section and a forum section and on the forum section on the homepage they had a little chat box where anybody that was a member could chat.
I think that this would be a really good idea because then if you need an answer quickly without posting a thread then this would be the place to do it.

But yeah, it's just a suggestion and I think that some people may find it useful, including myself. :)

Thanks for readingg!

Good idea. I think that was mentioned before. But!

Currently there are:

3933 users are currently online
69 registered users are currently online
3007 unregistered users currently on the forum

If you subtract 3933 with 3007, you have 926 registered users online (of which 69 are identified because they are not hiding their ID).

The chat box will be moving so fast, I don't think it will be useful.

Ooh! Maybe have one for each subsection of the forum i.e. New Builds, Windows 7 etc ! :D  maybe?

That should work.

Now it is up to Joe the community manager to decide to implement it or not.

I think I posted this in another thread on the same topic recently, but the three main problems with chat/shout boxes is that they detract from normal forum discussion, they are very difficult to moderate and they are often quite heavy on bandwidth relative to the rest of the forum. A particularly badly built one on another forum I visit increased the monthly bandwidth usage from 1.5TB to 30TB :o

Maybe a possibility of adding certain people to certain chat boxes?

Like each chat box is divided into sections, depending on which users are in each section.

EX:
I'm in CPU & Components, I can chat with all of the other registered users there.

It would still use a lot of bandwidth. The problem is that it keeps refreshing and that pulls in a lot of data every few seconds. Of course, like anything, you can build a good or bad implementation, but most aren't very efficient.
