first of all i recommend gtx 680 2gb version cause of its latest technology, but the gtx 580 is still the king.

Hello.
This answer depends a lot on what games do you play. GPUs act different from games to games. But if you want a good card overall then GTX680 is the King of the hill at the moment.
On the other way, GTX670ti will be a weakened GK104 with 7/8SMX available, and 1344 cuda cores. It should have around 85+% of GTX680 with other words, it will have performance between 7950 and 7970. It should be priced around $349 also.
I think that you should wait and see what Nvidia will have to offer soon (I think they want to lanch it along with ivybridge).
Also keep in mind that Nvidia stopped production of GTX580...

edit:

Not really. This is the review of 7870 that you posted and it's only one game.

More VRAM for 1920x1080 is useless. Unless you will go for 2560x1440/1600 there is no reason for more than 2GB (I am not even sure that more than 1,5GB is needed even...)
But if you can find something like MSI R7970 Lightning with 1070 core clock, at the same price of reference GTX680, then go for it. It's an awesome product. It has the same performance and you win on lower temps.

Btw talking about vram, here you will see almost same numbers from 2GB to 4GB @1920x1080/1200:

beating does not only means how much more FPS you get.7870 is a newer card,it is less power hungry, runs cooler and more overclocking potential.it runs head to head with a 580 at stock, but with a good OC i am sure it will beat 580.

Go for GTX 680 if you have money for it. You can't go wrong with it.

Just bought a brand new EVGA GTX 580 Superclocked on Ebay for $330 including shipping. Just make sure that it falls within EVGA's new warranty policy. Just ask the seller for the serial number and you can check it on EVGA's website. Any EVGA card will come with a 3 year warranty as long as it was shipped from EVGA's factory after 7/1/2011.

i said 7870 not 7850.and for 7870,here you go-
1-a 7870 with a good cooler is $350(roughly)-
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
2-gtx 580 with twinfrozer ii is $390-
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
here 7870 wins.
3-in terms of power consumption,gtx 580-
http://www.guru3d.com/article/geforce-gtx-580-review/7
Quote:
GeForce GTX 580

On your average system the card requires you to have a 650 Watt power supply unit.
GeForce GTX 580 in SLI

A second card requires you to add another 250 Watts. You need a 900+ Watt power supply unit if you use it in a high-end system (1 KiloWatt recommended if you plan on any overclocking).

4-hd 7870-
http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/2012/03/05/amd-radeon-...
5-in terms of overclocking,7870 has a way more overclocking potential.no need to give a proof here.
6-let's take a look at very demanding games-
metro 2033- http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/radeon-hd-7870-revi...
7870 wins at stock speeds.
bf3- http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/radeon-hd-7870-revi...
7870 wins at stock clocks.
in crysis 2 580 wins(every body knows that it was optimized for gtx cards).
6-technology,7870 is definitely better because it's a newer card and 28nm technology.
i hope you got my point.if you talk about more fps, older cards(5970) also challenge and beat 580 is some games but this does not means that 5970 is better than 580.do some research.then come.no offence.
