this question pertains to battlefield 3 with only needing Nvidia GeForce 8800 GT low specs to run the game and my laptop is Nvidia geforce 9400m. I tried to find charts and stuff.... nvidia's website doesn't show any Friggin specs related to comparing,

maybe if the numbers like i know 9 is 9th gen and 8 is probably 8th gen so possibly the 9400m is better?

lol that's not how it works.

8800GT was rebranded as a 9800GT so you can imagine what that card could do.

Anyway, here's a chart from tom's that should help you:
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-graphics-car...

The difference b/w three colour bands (tiers) should be about 10% for a given resolution, assuming no CPU bottlenecks.
There are mobile GPUs on the list too.

Anyway, the 8800GT is about 9 tiers higher than the desktop 9400GT, and 10 above the integrated solution.

Don't read too much into "gen"s, there's a lot of rebranding of stuff, so a 8400m could be branded and resold as a 9400m.

Probably has. Anyway, 8800GT was the high end card of the 8000-series, won't go down without a fight. Better than my 9600GT in most cases.

Oh and, 9400M != 9400GT, laptop cards are always weaker.

For example, the GTX 580M = GTX 560.

The desktop 8800GT was a high performance 8th generation GeForce video card.

The desktop 9400GT was a 9th generation GeForce video card. It was considered a Home Theater or multi-media video card. That translates to an entry level gaming card in terms of performance.

The 9400M is a mobile version of the 9400GT meant for laptops. Laptop graphic cards are less powerful than their desktop counter parts. Much less. For example, the Radeon Mobility HD 5850 is roughly as powerful as a desktop Radeon HD 5770 which is probably about 60% less powerful than the desktop Radeon HD 5850.

Even though the Geforce 9 series is newer than the Geforce 8 series, that does not mean the 9400GT will automatically be more powerful than the 8800GT. While it is a little more powerful than the 8400GT, it pales in comparison to the 8800GT. Like I said above, laptop video cards are weaker than their desktop counterparts.
