I am wondering about something and need some advice. At this moment I have an i2500k with a 4850. I want to upgrade my videocard and I was offered a cheap 4870 videocard. I'm wondering if it's worth to get it (it's €40) as a stopgap measure (I want to buy a 7850). It's pro's are that it had bitstreaming which my current card doesn't have. The con is that I don't know if it's worth the money to spend €40, allthough bit-streaming is very handy. Should I buy this card (and wait a little longer for that 7850) or skip this card and just save up for a 7850?

I personally wouldn't bother, but if you've got the chops to sell it in a month for €35 or so, then why not. But if your more likely to throw it in the closet then just wait.

You can get a new 4870x2 at sabrepc for about 150 right now. But even if you bought 2 in crossfire, it would suck up so much power, and be so loud, and potentially so hot/unstable, that it isn't worth it, other than to say that you have one...
Get a modern card. 6870 cards are going for good prices right now.

HD 4870/90s were loud and hot. Skip it and wait to get the HD 7850.

Thank you all for the replies. I think, allthough it's somewhat tempting, to skip this card and to go for a 7850 in a a few months from now.
