Desktop powers on but won't boot

Hello, I have a Dell Inspiron 530 desktop PC. Yesterday, I tried booting the computer up and have a problem. The power would come on, but there was 6 successive beeps coming from the PC and it would not boot. Nothing at all on screen. I tried re-seating the RAM, and got a different result. Powering up the PC, fans and power light come on, then would quickly shut down, then power back on a second later and hold power. Again though, would not boot and nothing onscreen. The beeping stopped however. I then tried pulling the power plug, and held the power button for 30 seconds. Now, the power and fans come on (it does not do the quick power off / power back on anymore) and nothing more happens. Fans continue to run, nothing on screen. Any suggestions? I am afraid I've lost the mother board. I am no IT expert, pretty much a novice. Thanks.

That may be a defective BIOS or it may simply be the CMOS battery on the motherboard is dead and needs replacing.

If the replacement battery does not solve it, try resetting the BIOS by jumpering the CLEAR CMOS pins
