hi I'm about to buy a Xonar stx and a logitech z906 and connect them with a optical cord and create a 5.1 home theater system for my computer and i wanted to hear your opinions about it before i go for it.

...why? The STX is designed for analog output; when you connect via SPDIF, the speakers, not the soundcard, is going to do all the audio processing. No point in getting a STX, then using the optical output. May as well get "just" an ASUS Xonar DX instead. [Same argument applies, but its $100 cheaper]

sorry I'm a Noobie in soundcards. so what you're saying is if i connect the speakers via spdif, the sound card won't do the processing?? i have a realtek onboard sound card now and as we know onboard cards use cpu so if i connect the speakers to realtek sound card won't use cpu for processing??
