I5 3570k stock vcore not normal?

Hi everybody,

i am a little bit concerned about my vcore for my i5 3570k which is set to offset mode in bios with a "+" and in auto for the offset number but i see in occt that my vcore is at 1,27 v for a stock speed of 3,8 ghz (with turbo mode). isn't it a little bit too high? i guess that is.

i give you the description of my rig;

I5 3570K 3,8 ghz
asus maximus 4 extreme Z bios version 3510
corsair vengeance 2x4go 1600 mhz x.m.p.
corsair AX 1050 watts modular silver connections
ati radeon hd 7950 3go by sapphire
western digital caviar green 1 tera HD

Maybe shall i switch something in bios to lower it or is it safe as set like this for the moment?

I saw that some people run their i5 3570k at stock speed with a vcore of 1,17 v

Digi+vrm option in bios: load line calibration is set to auto and phase mode is set to cpu command. Do i have to change that?

(ps: too mana options in bios for this mobo and by the way sorry for the poor english i am not an english native speaker)

I think theres a new batch of i5-3570k's that use higher vCore than the old batches that most people have. I have a brand new 3570k with a stock voltage of 1.3v and for 4.5GHz I need 1.365v but my temps are in the mid 70s with an Antec Kuhler 620. I'm currently looking into this as well.

A vcore increase of .1 isn't going to cause a serious failure in anyway. The only thing you need to do is just monitor your temperatures, and make sure you don't exceed your thermal threshold. I hope that was helpful :) . That and i have seen a lot of programs read vcore incorrectly, so I'm sure your fine, just monitor your temps like i said before.

Yeah temps are fine, it is the same vCore in BIOS too, which is really high. I'm in the process of manually measuring vCore on the motherboard with a multimeter.

My stock vcore is 1.272 NO ONE has answered me on tons of diff forums including here why its so high on stock, my temps are high but just under the too high catagory, max's out under loud at about 76, 78 the highest ive seen it...Which i heard is totally safe but not wanted, so after about a year now i have finallly ordered a 212 evo.

My question is, does this mean i will have a shitty overclocking 3570k? Or is the fact that its stock max vcore is 1.272 pretty much meaningless?

Also why am i not overheating? I read people with 4.5 o.c's using that voltage or less! So will i need an INSANE vcore to get a 4.5 oc then? My 212 evo has just arrived and i havnt installed it yet but im worried because i want to overclock.

So THEORETICELY doesn't this mean that say i dont install the 212 evo before i overclock, i could possible get to 4.5 at my stock vcore of 1.272 and have no increase in heat since thats my stock vcore???

I hope i can reach a MINIMUM of 4.3 overclock. (after i put on the 212 evo)

ALSO IM MONITORING THE VCORE WITH CPUID HW. And i think i remember using a different program to comfirm i wasn't getting bunk readings. IVE ALSO NEVER CHANGED ANY VCORE SETTINGS IN BIOS OR ANYTHING EXCEPT XMP PROFILE BUT I TURNED IT BACK OFF AND ALSO PUT BIOS BACK TO DEFAULTS JUST TO CHECK!

What motherboard are you using Mitchell?

Stock voltage is somewhat irrelevant. Unless you got extremely unlucky with your i5 that number could come down drastically.

You need to fine tune your voltage. Go ahead and set your multiplier to 43 and set your voltage to 1.25v in manual mode and see if it's stable. For sake of time, just use something quick like Intel Burn Test on high to check for stability. If it's stable you can start lowering that voltage (or raising the CPU clock) to test the limits.

As far as heat and voltage, take this as an example:

I run my current 3570K at 4.7GHz using 1.325v 24/7. My max temp is around 80C with a Prolimatech air cooler (similar to the Evo only with better heat pipes). I could leave my voltage at that same 1.325v and set my CPU frequency down to 3.8GHz and my load temps would drop drastically. Mostly because it's less stress on the CPU. High voltage does produce heat, but it produces a lot more heat at higher frequencies.

Do some testing and get back to me. I think 4.3GHz on decent aftermarket air cooling is attainable with 90% of the 3570Ks out there.

The max temp for your 3570K is 105C, but you definitely want to keep it below 85C just for good measure and longevity of your CPU.
