I'm working on an extremely low budget and wanted to upgrade my CPU so I looked at all the AMD ones which would fit my motherboard. Unfortunately it didn't work and now i'm wondering if I've just wasted my money or if the BIOS needs updated, I've made a few searches but that got me nowhere.

my PC is a Packard Bell istart which is a few years old now,

the MOBO is MCP61 by phoenix technologies, original CPU is AMD Athlon 64 X2 4000+ dual Core i wanted to change this to the Athlon 64 X2 7750 Black Edition.

Could anyone let me know if i've made a stupid purchase buying the CPU without checking or if there is any way to get it to work.

Thanks in advance

Dave

It's an istart 2311 although i've added extra ram and a dedicated graphics card.

I think your motherboard either doesn't support 'Kuma' based CPUs or doesn't support black edition CPUs or just doesn't want to work with the board for some odd reason.

The most likely is your mobo not supporting black edition CPUs...

I thought that might be the case, thanks for the help though.
