folders default to a drive other than the one which has my windows
instillation on it?

Thanks,

Hi,

Yes you can, but it involves a lot of registry changes to move the default
Program Files folder. The simple way is usually with a fresh install using
an unattended install. You create the unattended file that windows will
follow when installing the OS. If you want to do it on a system already
fully installed, you have to create the Program File folder on another
drive, copy all files to it, edit the registry for every entry that has
program files in it from C:\Program Files to say D:\Program Files. As for
the Application data that is with each profile, you need to relocate the
Documents and Settings folder and that also involves a bunch of steps and
registry editing.

I have moved the Documents and Settings folder to another drive and have all
profiles always located on the new drive, but had to do a lot of registry
editing. I haven`t tried to manually move a Program Files folder though.
If your worried about space on the hard drive, you don`t have install the
program on the C drive (well some programs requires a C drive install). If
you need more space for My Documents, that can easily be relocated. But
Application Data and Program Files involves a lot of work to move. Easiest
way is unattended install.
