I'm getting an amd fx-8150 and I think I should buy a new cpu fan. What kind should I get?

More about what
  1. So no heatsink, just the fan? Well, Noctua is well known for quiet fans, although some do not like the styling. Corsair just came out with a new line relatively recently and they range from quiet to powerful, I have a couple and besides a slight whirr from one of them I have no complaints (was too lazy to RMA and it has improved).
  2. ♦ if you are on a budget go for the cooler master 212 evo or Noctua NH-U9B SE2 CPU Cooler and if you are not on a budget go for water cooling much better.
  3. Are you over clocking? if not the stock OEM one will be fine. even with mild over clocking the stock heatsink/fan will be ok. only change it when you see CPU temp getting to high on a regular basis.
with the stock cooler 5Ghz is doable.

Are you talking about a fan, or really mean an aftermarket cpu cooler?

Why do you think you need a new fan/cooler?
What do you wish to accomplish with it.

As a general answer, I like tower type aftermarket coolers with slow turning 120mm or larger fans.
They will keep your cpu cooler and be quieter.
The cm hyper212 goes for about $30.
