Radeon 6870 only use one 6-pin

Hello,
just got a 6870 graphics card. when i turn on my comp, my monitor screen is black. the dvi hookups are in place. i only have 1 6-pin, but i use one of their 6-pin cords that came with the card and plug in the other end, which is a skinny, larger 4 pin looking thing into these other cords that go into my power supply. so, i have one 6-pin from the card directly to the pw, and the other connecting to what looks my dvd, then to my pw. could something else be the problem?

More about : radeon 6870 pin

no good. does the same thing. graphics card fan is spinning, comp comes on, but monitor just blankly stares at me after attempting to ascertain if the best choice is analog or digital, then finally the power button on the monitor starts flashing.

It could be a dud card you may have to just RMA it.

hey. yeah, when i put the old geforce 7800 gt back into the comp and take out the radeon 6870, the comp loads up like normal and the monitor screen comes on and shows everything loading and windows pops up as usual.
Graphics card Master

neato. I downloaded that cpu-z. it says that my motherboard is Gigabyte technology, GA-K8N Pro-SLI

The NVIDIA nForce4 SLI chipset on that motherboard determines the PCI Express Revision level and in this case it is PCI Express Bus specification v1.0a.
Graphics card Master

The graphics card should be tested in another system (i.e. probably something using more current PCI-E revision) to determine whether or not it even functions. If it functions then the graphics card's problem is most likely an incompatibility with the motherboard's PCI-E 1.0a.

In most cases the incompatibility arises when the graphics card maker has deviated, in some way, from the PCI Express specifications.

After a little searching ,this is a fairly common problem .
Best I could find is that you need a bios update to K10E.
Which is not on their site. You will need to email them and they will email you the new bios.
