As the title says, I'm trying to decide between the 650w version of the two power supplies for my first build. I will be running an i5 3570k and radeon 7870 in a corsair 500r. Here in New Zealand, the hx650 costs about $40 more than the tx650.

I read about alot of people saying that the tx650 v2 is unacceptably loud and that made me a little concerned.

Incase anyone is wondering, these are the PSU's I'm talking about:

Any help would be appreciated, also can anyone confirm that a 650w PSU will provide enough headroom for overclocking both the cpu and gpu?

Solution
It depends. There are major differences between the two Power supplies.
The TX650 V2 is not modular and is only 80+ bronze certified while the HX650 is modular and is 80+ gold certified. Both power supplies are made by Seasonic:

so you know both are reliable. You have to decide: Do you want power efficiency and/or a roomy computer system? If so, then the HX650 is the way to go, else save some money and get the TX 650 V2 since both are the same wattage

It's plenty Here is Guru3D's power supply recommendation:

Radeon HD 7850 - On your average system the card requires you to have a 500 Watt power supply unit and 650 Watt if you go with two cards in Crossfire mode.
Radeon HD 7870 - On your average system the cards require you to have a 550 Watt power supply unit as minimum and 700 Watt if you go with two cards in Crossfire mode.

If you are going to overclock the GPU or processor, then we do recommend you purchase something with some more stamina. Source: http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/amd_radeon_hd_7850_and_7870_review,7.html

To be perfectly honest I don't mind having a non modular PSU as i hear the 500r has a decent amount of room. What I'm really more concerned with is how people say the tx650 v2 has a loud fan and makes a whining noise often.

I cannot buy from NewEgg as I live in New Zealand. Although is this the power supply you are talking about?
