I'm going through various configs for my next computer.

One rig I'm thinking about is an AMD +3700 CPU and a GeForce 6800 GS graphics card. I plan to have 1 HD and 2 CD/DVD R/W initialy. What kind of power supply is needed to power this? Will 350W be enough, or is more needed?

Any input is welcome.

hi,
try calculating it by filling in all your components you plan to have into this calculator - http://www.jscustompcs.com/power_supply/

Edit- i just noticed there is also a sticky in this forum to help you with that.

I am running the following setup with a Fortron Source 350W PSU:

Gigabyte GA-2CEWH
2 AMD Opteron 254s
7800 GT vid card
Adaptec 2120S SCSI 320
2 15k RPM Cheetahs
2 50mm? chipset fans
2 60mm case fans
3 80mm case fans
2 92mm CPU fans
2 120mm case fans
Plextor DVD-RW
1.44 floppy

No problems whatsoever. The moral of the story is to get a GOOD QUALITY power supply. I'm sure there are lots of 550W PSUs that couldn't stand up to my 350W. I highly recommend Fortron Source.

Besides quality, the next most important thing to look for is how many amps are on the +12V rail(s). You want 30+ total either split between two rails (the new PWR standard 2.? has two +12V rails, one supplies the normal MB 24 Pin connector and the other comes on a separate 4 Pin connector that plugs in near the CPU (and supplies it)) or 30+ on one rail.
