Hi....
I looking at options for lenses for the 20D. My camera came as a kit with
the EFS 18-55mm. This camera replaces (or at least augments) my Canon A2E
(EOS 5).
My A2E has an EF 28-105mm. The EFS 18-55 is equivalent to around 28-88mm if
I'm not mistaken.
I've tried my EF 28-105 on the 20D, but does not seem to work well. I took
the same shot pretty much, with both lenses. The EF 28-105 seems to have
whitish, ghosting areas in the image. I assume this is to do with light
hitting the CMOS sensor at different angles, compared with the
specifically-digital design of the EFS lens?
Has anybody else tried using EF lenses with a 20D? Does this work well? Am I
doing something wrong? The EF lens fits okay, but not sure about the
results! Just wondered what other peoples' experience and opinions were?
Also, I assume that some of the other Canon EFS lenses would be an
improvement on the one supplied with the camera? What equivalent lens would
replace my EF lens?
Thanks for any comments,
Mark.

Hi Mark.
Well i know you are doing somthing wrong.
I did when i first got my 350D/XT my photos came out to dark or to bright.
The kit lens is junk i find it's only good for outdoor photos on bright
sunny days.
Yes the EF lens works great with the 20D and all other canon cameras.
You have to change your Shutter Speed, ISO Speed and Aperture to get great
results
Use the Canera in P = Program AE Mode you will get better results.
But M = Manual Mode is the best.
Which EF 28-105mm lens do you have. Canon has 2 EF 28-105mm Lenses.
EF 28-105mm F3.5-4.5 II USM
EF 28-105mm F4-5.6 USM

Hi Vince,
Thanks for confirming that the EF lens should work - I will experiment, as
you suggest.
I have the EF 28-105 F3.5-4.5

I use two lenses on my Canon 10D:
Tamron 28-75 2,8 and Tamron 17-35 2,8-4
Optical quality is comparibel with the L-series of Canon for about 40% of
Canon's price.
They got several awards.

I use the 28-105 f/3.5-4.5 on my 10D, it's one of Canon's better
consumer-grade lenses. I'm not sure what you're doing, but I've never
experienced what you described nor have I seen it described as a problem on
any of the Canon forums.

Did you use these lenses on your homepage? Very sharp pictures you have
here.

The 20D was designed to work with EF lenses. There should be
no issues. If there is a problem with one lens, then it will be
a fault in the lens not the camera.

Agree.. I have them both for a very short period of time but I have to
admit that they are the best choices if you cannot afford L-class.

I'have tested this one with my 20D. It worked remarkably well (as the
lens for such low price).Have no idea what's wrong with yours. :-(
Maybe some examples allow us to tell more?

Thanks everybody for your input.
I've tried a few more shots, but the EF lens just doesn't cut it. If I under
expose by about one stop, then it is comparable with the supplied EFS lens.
Yet I understood that the EFS lens is not really a very good one - seems ok
to me.

About 3 gazillion other people - the 20D was built to use EF lenses.

It works magnificently. It sounds like there may be a problem with your
lens.

Chris,
Thanks for confirming that I've got something wrong and that the EF lens
should work fine.
Maybe I'll get it looked at.
