New graphics card ideas?

I am going to buy a new graphics card for my pc, which i recently upgraded with a 420w PSU and AMD 64 X2 5000+. I bought a Radeon 5450 with pci 2.1 which didn't work on my pci 1.0 x16 mobo. I'm guessing its a compatibility issue that i have seen on the internet. Therefore i am looking for a PCI 2.0 card for around 50-65 bucks. I would use it for casual gaming in small resolutions. I have looked at the:

Nvidia:
210
220
430

AMD:
6570
?
?

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Which card would be the best and work?

Most of the AMD cards are 2.1 and yes you could have a problem with the 2.1 working in a 1.0 slot. My questions are, What was the card you had in before the HD 5450? did you update your Bios and MOBO?

Did you make sure that your onboard GPU was disabled? Let us know back with the answers.

I say 5670. It's a great card and can run with your setup.
It's really cheap and the price is continuing to go down.
You should be real able to grab one of these for less than $50.
It is big though, so just make sure it will fit into your system before hand.

Once you put in your next GFX card, your system should be smart enough to notice that it's there. All you will need to do is set up the drivers and it should be really simple. It should come with an 1000+ language guide on how to do it.

Yes I made sure that my on board graphics were turned off. I did nor have a graphics card in before my hd 5450 and I updated my mobo and bios before I started. I'm sure it's the 2.1 in 1.0 problem so am looking at buying pci 2.0 cards only

That is good you did your reserch and you did everything right. So now the only card that will work is the in the bottom class of nVidia cards. So my guess wood be the GT 440 as my first choice. Good luck on this.

My second choice is above your budget but it will work.

And my third choice would be the GT 430

Thanks for your suggestions, I am looking at either a 430 or 440. However as I live in nz these can be expensive so I would properly get a palit. Is that an ok manufacture?

It's a decent manufacture, there is also an official Palit representative (or used to be) on the Tom's forum as well.

Would a 440 show a large fps Increase in fallout 3 then the 430? I just bought the GOTY edition and was wondering what would be best. It would be at 1280*1056

From what I have read it is a good manufacturer but unlike EVGA, XFX, and MSI but you will get a not the best and for sure not the worst or even close to it. Scale 1-10 it would be 4 1 being the best and 10 the worst. Good luck to you on getting you a new card.

Should be decent depending on settings. Here's a video of recommended settings with what to expect:

Not the best graphics but for a GT 440 that was Awesome. I didn't know that the GT had it in it to do that. It was cool.

So is that a GT 430 by Gigabyte? I have a MSI GT 430 in one of my dells that I use and it gives me some what good graghics. But I don't know how it will fair in the games you are wanting to play.

Just some older titles like fallout 3, new Vegas, TF2, left 4 dead things like that. I think it will be ok.

There again I don't know because I don't play those type of games Sorry. If the 440 played those game you would think the 430 would also just on lower setting and resolution.

Being in NZ I would hope you don't have to travel far to return the card if it didn't work. In any case I wish you the best.
