Hi everyone.
I'm building a new rig for around $750.00. The main parts are from a barebone kit off Tigerdirect

Here are the final specs:
MSi Raptor Mid-Tower Case
ASUS p8Z77-V LX ATX Mobo Z77
Intel i5 2500k
16GB Corsair 1333Mhz 9-9-9-24
Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200RPM

**Either ULTRA LSP550 or COOLERMASTER RS500 PSU**

3 Masscool 120mm fans+ Aerocool Fan controller

Windows 7 HP

Sony Optiarc 24X DVDRW

Thoughts on the specs? Do I need to change memory timings for quad channel and if so how? Which PSU should I use? Thanks!
:bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

That's an understatement - Ultra PSUs are absolute crap that I wouldn't touch again with a 10 foot pole. I'd go for a mid-range Seasonic or Corsair PSU over either one chosen.

You actually don't need the extra fans until you get your case setup and see how the air flows, read this for more info: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/cooling-airflow-heatsink,3053.html

Unfortunately he's right, you can do much better within your budget! Show Enermax some love with one of their psu's.

What are you planning to/hoping to do with this new build?

I did think about that; if I switched to 8GB it would take $20 off the price. What do you mean by the Z77 not needed by a 2nd gen i5? What fans would you reccommend for under $11 each? I was thinking these : http://tinyurl.com/corsairCO9050004

.

I have the Coolermaster right now, and the Ultra would come with the barebone kit.... I would plan on some mild gaming (Grand Theft Auto IV, medium settings) maybe video editing in the future (basic, nothing too graphical). I know I would need a new graphics card.

Do you think I would need the fan controller? Also, what do you think of the cooler I have right now? (Corsair A70) I plan on some overclocking probably up ~4.2-3

I am just going to get the fans because I have quite a few other things that would restrict airflow in the case (USB ports PCI card, current GT220 future HD5750, Wifi adapter, A50 cooler). I wonder how Ultra even makes money if their PSUs are crap and they offer lifetime warranties on them....

I will be in fact getting a Corsair 500watt builders edition PSU.

I have reconsidered and revised my specifications as followed:

Thermaltake V3 Black Edition
Intel i5 2500k
Corsair A50 Air Series Perfo. Cooler
ASUS P8Z77V LX Motherboard
Corsair CMPSU-500CXV2 Builder Series 500 Watt
Corsair CMX8GX3M2A1333C9 PC10666 1333Mhz (8GB)
Sony Optiarc 24x DVDRW
WD Caviar Blue 1TB 7200RPM, SATA 6Gbps, 32MB
Fans: (1) Cooler Master SickleFlow 120mm (2) Masscool BLD12025S1M 120mm
Radeon HD5750 (browsing through eBay :D )

Questions is, some people say Corsair 500watts can pass for 550s on crap brands. Would the Corsair be enough to power the Radeon and other stuff?

The only thing I can think of is Tiger Direct dupes people into buying Ultra's junk by bundling it with their pre-built systems. I don't know how they make money either - if people really knew how bad their cases and PSUs are, nobody would buy them.

The 5750 is a decent choice - you can get a new 6850 for the same price, the 6870 would be a $20 upgrade.

I'm buying the GPU used off eBay.....what would be a decent price range for the 5750, 6850, and 6870? Also, is the Corsair PSU sufficient for the Radeon?
