I've been looking into building my own computer for a while, and this hulky crap I'm using now won't survive much longer so I've started looking around.

It would be nice to be able to play some games on it, but all my techie friends give me is advice on how to build $900-1500 dollar computers I can't afford. I guess I'm looking for the most affordable build around that can play games decently, I don't really care about max settings. With a bit of room for future upgrades I suppose. I mean, my computer can't run minecraft on medium...

I'm just another broke college student so affordability is most important. I've seen some builds around $400-500 (http://www.informatics-tech.com/build-a-cheap-400-dollar-gaming-computer-2012.html and such) but I'm not comfortable as I don't have a good grasp of how well different builds would work. Any advice/info? Or recommended builds?

For a decent build that would allow you to play all current games on mid to high settings and would also include room for future upgrades you need around $700-$800 with $400-$500 you could build a gaming rig but it wouldn't be of very nice quality and it would only play games on low settings there would be a few games you could play on higher settings but not a lot.

I dont think you need to spend too much for a good gamer. I am building one right now for around 500 bucks (Not including peripherals and os) that should be able to handle bf3 on high. Here are the specs. (I am alright with any frame rate above 35.)

Graphics card: Galaxy GeForce GTX 560 1 GB GDDR5 PCI Express (I am going to overclock)

Ram: CORSAIR Vengeance 4GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model CMZ4GX3M1A1600C9B 24.99

Motherboard: BIOSTAR A880GZ AM3+ AMD 880G HDMI SATA 6Gb/s Micro ATX AMD 59.99

Tower: Rosewill CHALLENGER Black Gaming ATX Mid Tower Computer Case 49.99

Thanks for the advice guys. Yeah, I already have the peripherals and OS, so I think an okay build is possible in that budget- and thanks for the recommended build wondermonkey! I figured other people would be constructing builds along similar lines. Just seems difficult to hunt down the threads.
