halo 2 disc problems

Hi

I just got halo2 for xmas. Stuck the disc in. Its loads up the opening
credits - Microsoft, bungie. Then when it loads the main screen. theres
no text on the menu options. No idea which option is which.
Restart the xbox. This time the text appears. Then create a profile and
start the campaign. the lovely loading screen appears and gets
halfway(ish). Then nothing happens - the screen gets stuck. Music plays
in a loop but the loading goes nowhere. restart it again. text doesn't
appear but remember the order of the menus. game gets stuck again on the
loading. ahhhhhhhh

What the hell is going on!! The disc is brand new - no marks at all on
it. Have the xbox for over 2 years now, so could it be the case where
the xbox DVD drive can't read the disc? Is the best solution to stick in
a new drive? Burnout3/S. Cell/PGR2 works perfectly in it.
