I'm building a gaming/multi-use recording machine to be used with reaper, more as an entry level machine before I jump head first into building a full studio machine. So far, my build looks like this. In Canada, by the way, so all prices reflect that.

AMD FX-8150 Black edition
Asus Sabertooth 990fx
Corsair Builder series 600W PSU
Seagate 500gb 7200rpm
Corsair vengeance 8gb ram kit. (Gray, not blue.)

I've been trying to decide on a video card, been recommended the XFX 7770 card for around 125. Though, while looking around I've noticed that the 6850/70 seem to be a better value card.. My question is though, is XFX a good brand to stick with, or does Asus, Gigabyte etc. have comparable cards? The prices really seem to vary, and I'm looking for the best card that would fall under $150.

I dont call your setup a budget build with a $200 processor and a $175 mobo. I would not put that $125 gpu in that build to game with. Spend some more money and max out your experience. Here are some examples from newegg that might help:

SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 7870 GHz Edition 2GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102981 $350

SAPPHIRERadeon HD 7850 OC 2GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card ( 11200-01-20G ) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102984 $249

I bought the second card for a build for my wife and she plays wow on high with no problem and 55 to 60
I know the links are from newegg US but it will give you an idea
