URGENT 8pin CPU adapter.. safe to plug in 4pin CPU receiver?

Hello I bought a New 600 Watt power supply unit to replace my 300 Watt unit. Above my heatsink (and CPU) there is a 4 pin plugup. My new power supply has an insert for eight pins (two sequences of four) I inserted half of the 8 pins and it fit nicely.

The question......... is it safe to turn my computer on or will everything fry?
