Hi. I have an older pc ( opteron , socket 7, xp ) that is just fine for my needs but it doesn't have an hdmi output. I would like to bring it down in my basement and connect it to my home theater system.

can you please recommend a very good pc card that will produce amazing video and sound ? I have pci-e on my mobo.

I am assuming you just want it just to play movies? Since that machine would be severely bottlenecked anyway by current games. You could play pre 2005 games pretty good on these cards and they only cost about 44-50$.

I would go for either one of these:
AMD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150581
Nvidia: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121475

Both of these just use heat sinks so there will be no noise coming from the graphics card which is nice for a home theater setup.
