Hello,

I just got my son a newHP Laptop for gaming - it's an i7-2670QM with 2.2GHx6MBL3Cache, has 8GB DDR3 system memory, and a 2gb amd radeon hd 7690m gddr5.

This machine performs with a MUCH slower fps across multiple games when compared to my much older i7 with less memory & much older graphics card.

SUGGESTIONS PLEASE! I appreciate any pracitcal guidance...THANKS

My older laptop that performs better has an Nvidia GeForce GT 230M.
The older laptop performed great at high resolutions.
The new one performs with avg-poor fps even at medium resolutions, and only ok on low resolutions.

It should be faster your right, but it could also be that the amount of bloatware on the machine is slowing it down. Also, does the machine have switchable graphics? If it does, it could be that it is set to the Intel graphics rather than the Radeon.

<<does the machine have switchable graphics>>
How can I determine this?
Thanks for the helpful suggestion!

Go to control panel, hardware and sound, device manager.

Expand display adapters. It should say what kind of display device you are using.
