I'm not sure which stuff from the new system should I combine with the old one. (This is for gaming)

New system
CPU : Intel Core i5 3450 3.1-3.5Ghz (Quad Core)
PSU : Cooler Master GX 750watts
MOBO : lga1155 Asus P8H77 M PRO
Vcard : Sapphire HD 7770 Vapor-X 1gb/128bit ddr5

My system
CPU : Intel Core i7 920 2.66Ghz (Quad Core)
PSU : Thermaltake Lite 600watts
MOBO : lga1366 Intel DX58SO
Vcard : Sapphire HD 5770 Vapor-X 1gb/128bit ddr5

My friend say I should get the new system entirely, because the i7 is an older generation.

How do you know if a board can support the CPU? I heard there are only a specific types of boards for i-7's

What do you guys say?

Solution
Keep the i7 and mobo. The performance boost from the i5 won't be that noticeable for gaming. Use the money you save towards a better GPU like a 7850 or 670 if you can fit it in your budget.

Drop the PSU on both. Get Corsair, Antec, Seasonic or XFX. 750W is overkill for a 7770.

So 600w is sufficient enough? I really don't know how much watts should a PC need

I'm also gonna crossfire 7770 sometime in the future, I don't have the budget to buy a single 7850 in one drop, I will probably buy the second card(after the first 7770) after 2-3months

If you keep your i7 and mobo, then you'll be able to buy a 7850. The performance boost is worth it.

Yes, 600W is enough, even for crossfire on a 7770. 500W is enough if you go with the i5 processor.

Edit: CPUs fit into specific sockets. Motherboards will specify which type of socket it possesses so you know what kind of CPU will fit.
