Questions about USB Adapters

I have a USB expansion module (or whatever the technical term for it is) and it has space for two conventional usbs (instead of usb headers). What I was wondering was: could I put a usb wireless adapter into this USB expansion module inside my case and have it still work? Will it get a signal, or does the receiver have to be outside the case?

The signal will be very weak inside your case, so you need to plug in on the outside.
