But the 4300 is piledriver. A better CPU than the 4170 so that is outdated..
Overall I think they are the same. Ivy bridge can upgrade to i5 witch is bonified good upgrade. But it most likely can't upgrade to the next gen, not sure if piledriver can upgrade to the next gen either actually. It also has a good upgrade to the 8350 or 8320. They perform on par with i5.
At this point it's just preference.
FYI, The 6100 is just $10 dollars more, and it is better than the i3 2220. (over all) And still costs about the same as some of the other i3s.
I'd say that it is mostly just preference. I'm not sure how both those chips stack up against each other but in terms of your upgrade path (which is important) I know the new 8 cores from AMD (I can't remember their exact number 8350?) from the bench's that I've seen do come close to matching the 3470. I know some people are able to OC their fx chips to hell but Intels OC ability might come close. I'm not sure on that part.
