Not to sound hectic but that isn't enough information :p

What are you using it for? Do you have a graphics card? Whats your motherboard, or are you buying new one?

Or is this just a discussion? oO

With a graphics card better than a 6670 (or as good) the i3 2220 would be better than counterparts in it's price range at gaming, and is $130 exactly.

Other wise an APU A-10 (less than $130) would provide a good level of graphics and performance.

The A-10 beats the i3 in some cases, equals it in other cases, and is a bit poorer performer in yet other cases.

The 4300 is exactly $130 as well. Using it against i3 2220.. Check the other thread for that one lol (there is currently a thread in this section that has the title 4300 vs i3 2220)

I am now looking at a Pentium G2120. I am wondering if this would be better than an A10 5800k? I want to get a HD 7770, so integrated graphics is not a problem.

If you want to get an HD 7770 that Pentium will work as well. The AMD APU A-10 is better than the Pentium, yes. The i3 2220 is better than the Pentium.

But what really matters is what you are going to use it for. Games? Making videos/pictures? CAD?

If it's just games, and if you are fine with a 7770's performance; then any of those CPUs will do fine. Even the Pentium. Thier currently is no "best" it would be a balance between the A-10 5600 and the i3 2220. i3 has somewhat better single/two thread performance. The A-10 5600 is better for threaded applications, and is a true 4-core. While i3 is a dual core.

AMD offers a path to an different generation upgrade, while intell's upgrade is only that current gen.
Meaning that you can upgrade to an i5/i7 in Ivy bridge with intell. (a good upgrade)

And meaning that you can upgrade to the next generation APU when it comes out on FM2 (sometimes next year). Next gen APU can probably crossfire with a 7770 as well..

Piledriver is AM3+ and you should be able to upgrade to a next generation CPU (2013) as well in the future should you go that route. 4300 is the $130 CPU for Piledriver.

intel pentium G2120 cpu is not crap. its better than any amd cpu at that price point and its even better than any amd fx bulldozer cpu.
also its better than amd piledriver fx-4300 and fx-6300 as well.
its one of the best budget gaming cpu and it beats pretty much every amd cpu in gaming.
and yes it would be be beat the A10-5800k too if you pair the 7770 with it
:wahoo:

Since you are getting a video card, i3-32xx or FX-63xx will be fine. You should be able to find both for around $110. For $130 there's not much else. If you spend $160 you can get a ivy bridge i5 though.
