Hello everybody,
I have a dell vostro 220s (slim) with a intel core 2 duo e7500 CPU. Could I upgrade to a e8600? If I could upgrade , would it benefit me to do so?
Thank you.

Your motherboard will support all these:

Yorkfield Quad Core Q8400 2.66GHz
Wolfdale Dual Core E8600 3.33GHz
Wolfdale Dual Core E8500 3.16GHz
Wolfdale Dual Core E7600 3.06GHz
Wolfdale Dual Core E8400 3.00GHz
Wolfdale Dual Core E7500 2.93GHz
Wolfdale Dual Core E6300 2.80GHz
Wolfdale Dual Core E7300 2.66GHz
Wolfdale Dual Core E5200 2.50GHz
Wolfdale Dual Core E4700 2.80GHz

That being said you can run the e8600 on your build however the questions is what will you do with the CPU? Since you ask if it would benefit you to do so will you be gaming? Or just use it for normal stuff like internet, typing etc.?

Generally the E8600 is the faster dual core in pretty much everything (frequency, bus speed, L1, L2 Cache etc.)

Yes it would, I would say at the least 5-10 fps which can really be the difference between lag and playable frame rates. In addition the e8600 has a lower voltage meaning it can be overclocked more. Overclocking it would also increase game performance.

In gaming I say its a draw, games that utilize dual cores mean the e8600 wins but games that make use of quad cores means the Q8400 wins.

Lastly, with a good cooler the e8600 can be overclocked easily to a whooping 4ghz which is real fast.
