I don't plan to OC much. I had problems with it in the past and it caused me many frustrating phone calls to tech support.
So one card with 2GB would be a better trade off compared to two cards at 1GB each?

Good point, most 970's Xfire just fine, but that one in particular is not good for Xfire, so basically you need a new card.
Then a new card with 2GB would be the best bet? I didn't expect to ever use more than one monitor, so I never planned that far ahead. Wouldn't my board be okay, just a tight fit and be a little close on the cards?

Yeah, you're right, it is, I overlooked that. I appreciate all your help. I think I'm going to go with a 7870 single card. It appears to be the cheapest option and one of the better solutions short of buying a new board and card.
