Is there a way to display/sort jpg's by pixel size?
ie sort by width or height.

Chuckle.
The pixels coming out of one of my cameras are twice
the diameter of the pixels from the other two.

Pixels don't really have a size. They have a color and density and
ratio, but the size only has meaning when they are printed.

LOL, I was thinking that I didn't want the file size.
Should read pixel count.

I assume op means total pixel count, which will correlate in a rough sort of
way with jpeg size, although that is also affected by picture content.
While it's not normal or perhaps even polite to question why a poster posts
a particular question, in the case curiosity might cause one to ask why!

What OS? In XP's Windows Explorer you can at least right-click the
column headers and add Dimension then click it to sort by the first
value.

Pixel count is closely related to file size, so if you sort files by
their size, you should end up with the same result. Most operating
systems provide an easy way to sort files based on size.

More or less true, all other things being the same. But several
of my cameras offer 2 or 3 compression ratios for the same
resolution (pixel count), so if different selections have been used,
or if you're mixing pictures taken with different cameras that don't
compress similarly, file size won't accurately reflect pixel count.

Assuming you have Win XP, preferably Pro, navigate to the folder
(s) you want to sort, select View>Detail, then View>Choose
Details, and put a check in Dimensions.

Now, simply left-click on the Dimensions column and voila!

You are correct Dave. I meant pixel count.
I have 300 plus images of different shapes and sizes that need to be resized
for a website.
I did a quick resize using Irfanview of all images to be 300 wide.
When I use each image I resize again to be 280 or less high.
I want to identify which ones are less than 300 wide. Then I can resize
correctly, at 100% quality, not the 80% that my setup was set to.
I want to sort them so that I can bulk resize the 300 wide images and then
hand resize the remaining images.

Unfortunately not XP, but Windows ME.

You got some good answers for pixel count. I especially liked Markeau's
answer. I did not know about all those options.

It takes extra work, but if you set up a database of the images that includes the number
of pixels (total and/or by width and height), you can sort the list any way you like. If
you use Excel (or a comparable spread sheet) for the data base, you can include thumbnails
of the pictures.

If I had XP I would agree with you Joseph.
I have Windows ME.

XP Professional: Right click the file icon, choose Properties, check
the Advanced button on the Summary tab. Shows pixel count in each
direction as well as additional image information.

Anyway of saving that displayed information?
I don't want to Control Print Screen numerous times.
I don't want to type every one into a database.

It seems it would be simplest to upgrade to XP and follow other posters'
directions about headers.

If you are a student, go to your school's website. There may be an
offer to get MS software for a very small fee.
