I have the latest Intel Ultra ATA storage driver v6.10 as well as the latest chipset drivers V2.90.009 on my Asus CUSL2-C mobo. I upgraded my HDD from a Seagate ST83210A 8.3GB HDD to a Seagate Barracuda III Ultra ATA 100 30GB HDD (ST330620A). Now the PC won't boot up with the storage driver installed. It goes as for as the first Windows splash screen then it just hangs. If I hit escape the splash screen disappears and I see a flashing cursor at the top of the screen with the usual “Updating configuration, Updating finished, continuing to load Windows”, that’s as far as it gets.
If I reset and enter safe mode, I can see that the software has loaded. If I uninstall the driver in safe mode, the PC reboots normally.
I cannot find any info about this problem on either the Intel or Seagate sites. I have e-mailed Seagate twice but got no reply to either. However, I tend to think that it is not the HDD at fault. I realise that I do not need this software, but as it worked on my old hard drive, why doesn’t it work on the new one?
